We recently caught up with Sereno’s Event Planner extraordinaire, Gabriella, on all things Lake Como and some of her experiences at one of our properties, Villa Pliniana:

Why has Lake Como become such a popular area for holiday-makers and those wishing to host incredible events? “Because Lake Como has it all – location, food, sports, and glamour!” How easy is it to reach Lake Como? “Oh, it’s super easy; there are so many flights to and from Milan Malpensa Airport that connect to big cities such as New York, Dubai, and Los Angeles, to name but a few. Upon touchdown, guests are just a 30-minute drive from the lake where an array of activities await.”

Can you give us a few examples of the activities you would recommend to guests during their stay? “Well, our guests love to be on the lake, whether on a boat tour, paddle-boarding off the private pier at Pliniana, or just having a swim. If they’re nature lovers, we are surrounded by beautiful mountains perfect for a hike with or without a guide. If, however, they’re not interested in outdoor activities, it’s only a 45-minute drive to the fashion capital of the world, Milan. We can pretty much organise everything to fulfil our guests’ needs including painting, yoga, cooking classes and wine tastings.”

There’s so much that can be done during a stay at Lake Como that it can become difficult to fit everything in without proper planning. How do you manage this at Villa Pliniana? “I believe our strongest asset is our level of service. Managing Il Sereno has enabled our team to extend the same luxury, 5-star service to Pliniana. This includes a full housekeeping service, an exclusive on-site Chef for all meals, and a concierge. Between the concierge and I, we ensure suitable activities are booked and that our guests have some incredible experiences during their stay.” What do you like most about working here? “I enjoy the fact that I get to know so many different people and work with such diverse professionals when planning events. It brings me joy to ensure guests receive the best treatment and return home full of unforgettable memories. Although the events can be challenging at times, they’re also incredibly rewarding which makes it all worth it.”

What was the biggest event planning challenge you’ve faced at Villa Pliniana? “I remember one event in particular where we had to bring in tonnes of material by barge to access the villa and once it got there we needed a crane and helicopter to complete the journey. Fortunately, I work with some of the very best in the business so it all went smoothly in the end.” What aspect of Villa Pliniana makes your job easier? “It’s definitely the location. Villa Pliniana is not subject to any time limitations regarding music so if you’re looking for a venue to party all day and all night, this is it. Then I would have to say the amount of space – 18-acres of beautiful grounds means I can let my creativity run wild.”

In your opinion, why is Villa Pliniana such a special property? “For one, its history – Villa Pliniana is the oldest Palazzo on the lake and many important artists, composers and poets have visited throughout the centuries.”

Now that you know a little more about Villa Pliniana and our amazing Events Manager, perhaps it’s time to start planning your perfect event. So, for enquiries or bookings, don’t hesitate to contact Gabriella directly at eventsmanager@ilsereno.com.
